Iris Blobel 2013

Book Bug: Hello Iris, thank you for the opportunity to Bug you 🙂 with some questions 🙂
Iris Blobel:  Great to be here. Thanks for the invite!

Book Bug: You’ve travelled quite a bit and lived in a few countries, which one did you love the most? 🙂
Iris Blobel:  There’s no way I could answer that with just one word. Each travel, each journey, and each holiday was special in its own way, whether it was with my family, to visit friends, to visit my family in Germany – each trip was exceptional in its own way. The countries I have visited unique in their own way that I have very fond memories of most of them.

Book Bug: The most interesting thing that ever happened to you was…
Iris Blobel:  Meeting different people during my life 🙂

Book Bug: As an author of romance novels – to what extent are you a romantic person?
Iris Blobel: I am, but I am not really. I love to read romance and I love a nice romantic movie … I love to cuddle, but I don’t like to get flowers. Don’t invite me to a nice dinner … take me to a nice picnic at the beach.

Book Bug: Pen and paper or keyboard?
Iris Blobel:  Keyboard, no doubt!

Book Bug: The best ideas for the story are born when you…
Iris Blobel:  When I’m travelling.

Book Bug: I’ve come across a quote by William Saroyan: “I do not know what makes a writer, but it probably isn’t happiness.” Do you agree? and why?
Iris Blobel:  Interesting! Very carefully, I’d say I disagree.  The thought of all these talented writers out there being unhappy, scares me. I’d say everyone has their talents in life, writers are brilliant storyweavers – and a lot, if not most of the writers I know are happy and funny people.

Book Bug: What gave you the idea of writing Australian Sport Stars* series?
Iris Blobel:  We went to place called Merimbula a few years back, and I knew straight away that I wanted to write something set in a small place like this. It was round about the time of the AFL Grand Final – put one and one together and the idea for “Love Will Find You” was born. While writing the book, I fell in love with Tyson’s (my main character) friends Oliver and Markus. They deserved a story as well … that’s how the Australian Sport Stars Series was born.

Book Bug: Books of what genre do you read the most?
Iris Blobel:  I like a good mix of genres, from mystery, crime, to romance. A good book’s a good book, no matter what genre.

Book Bug: Now that you live in Australia do you miss anything about other countries you’ve lived in?
Iris Blobel:  Oh, I missed a few things from “back home” when I first came to Australia, mainly the food or the ability to quickly “come back with a good answer”. Over the years it’s settled quite a bit. I have shops here with international food, and the lingo has improved as well.
What I still miss, though, is how close everything is in Europe – a quick trip to France, Italy, or the Alps … although Australia is one very amazing country, you can travel for days and you’re still “in it” 🙂

Book Bug: What was the hardest thing to get used to when you moved to Australia?
Iris Blobel:  Being so far away from my family.

Book Bug: Thank you so much for your time!!!
Iris Blobel:  Absolute pleasure 🙂
