D – is for…

Running faster that she ever thought possible, the only thought in her mind was to be away. Away as in: not here. Anywhere else. Soon she became exhausted enough to have a terrifying thought… What if here was everywhere? What if running away from HERE was in fact running forever? Did not Anywhere Else become HERE the second she arrived?

Do not think. Do not think…
Then again, that was becoming another endless loop, as the mantra in her head was nothing other but a thought…

Her mind was spinning crazier than a carousel from a horror movie.

What was it that she was running AWAY from anyways?

Place? Thought?

Herself…?

Beads of sweat were all over her forehead, trickling down her cheeks and neck. She shook her head slightly as a passing thought to taste its saltiness nudged her mind.

She jumped up as a heavy, sticky and hot breath reached her neck yet again. Giving a wild scream she sped up, even though she thought she was running at the top of her abilities already…

And then she saw it.

The last few steps were leaps actually. She dove for it giving it her all…

The DOOR slammed shut behind her.

Screaming she sat up, her eyes firmly shut, heartbeat beyond crazy…

She felt someones gentle arm around her shoulders and decided to slowly open her eyes…

‘Shhh Sweetheart, it’s OK. I’m here.’

Giving a sigh she let the muscles go…

Another night… Another dream

  1. I had to take a deep breath when I finished that. You certainly created a sense of tension and fear. The hot breath on her neck, spurring her even faster, was nightmarish indeed.

  2. What a relief to wake up from a dream that feels so real.

  3. She’s right, of course. Wherever you go, you end up here! It is impossible to be anywhere other than where you are. Unless, of course, you are sub-atomic particle… or a cat, and your owner is one Erwin Rudolf Josef Alexander Schrödinger. Even then, it’s questionable.
